The Museums

Museum of Hotel-Dieu Saint-Joseph, Saint-Basile, New Brunswick

In addition to contributing to the preservation of the cultural, religious and social heritage of the region  served by Hotel Dieu, Saint Basile, the Museum of the Religious Hospitallers of Saint Joseph has as its specific mission to make known the services rendered in health care and education since 1873.  The Hotel Dieu, first hospital in the region, had an international scope, since it served both sides of the Saint John River.  The interest of its museum goes beyond frontiers.  Articles used in the hospital and the pharmacy, as well as worship and various manual works assured the subsistence of the hospital, the two boarding schools and the monastery.  The Saint Basile convent played a major role in Madawaska and its museum evokes the tender compassion which characterized the presence of the Hospitallers in the Northwest of New Brunswick.
