For close to 200 years, the Hospitallers of Saint Joseph limited their activities to Montreal. This accounts for the gap in that era. In 1841, the Bishop of Kingston invited the Religious Hospitallers of Saint Joseph to a foundation outside of Montreal.

Currently the RHSJ are situated in three different locations in Ontario.
